First Solo Backpacking Trip: Palawan

Its been years since I planned my last backpacking trip. Reminiscing reminded me of my first solo 3 days and 2 nights escape to Palawan. Cebu Pacific launched its first flight to Puerto Princesa, Palawan in 2003. And guess what, I grabbed it! Why Puerto Princesa? Because it is home to one of UNESCO’s Natural World Heritage Sites, The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP). It used to be called St. Paul’s Subterranean River. I got the flight in short notice so I wasn’t able to scout and book for my accommodation. Good thing I was able to grab

E-travel: Blog Hopping Fun at Weekend Blog Follower Caravan # 13

Since I returned to blogging, I’ve gained new online friends and I had the opportunity to meet some personally.  And surprisingly, bloggers are pretty much like old friends even on the first meeting! I had fun and learned a lot from old timers, too. So I am very eager to join Weekend Blog Follower Caravan # 13 Who knows, we’ll meet personally in one of the blogger events. Will look forward to that. In the mean time, I am excited to do this week’s blog hopping and Facebook page liking! Weekend Blog Follower Caravan is a simple online blogger-helping-blogger weekly meme.

Freedom Climb 2011 – Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao

In celebration of our National Independence, Freedom Climb is an annual event wherein mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the country collaborate together to summit different climbing destinations simultaneously. Now on its third year, on June 10-12, the organizers of this event shall try what has never been done before. To create a new criterion in the Guinness World Records and set a worldwide record for — THE MOST PEOPLE TO SUMMIT DIFFERENT PEAKS within a 24-hr period. Aside from nurturing national unity, the event aims to promote environmental awareness, conservation, preservation and protection; to campaign for responsible sportsmanship,

My Toddler’s First Outdoor Adventure

After our hearty lunch at Paradizoo, we proceeded to the Residence Inn for an afternoon of fun. The facility and staff is ready for summer tourists, Tagaytay being one of the favorite destinations for the hot summer months. The zoo is a favorite for kids and kids at heart. Obviously, I’ve been a returning guest. I’ve seen setups before and have chanced upon the worst of this facility. I am happy to see it is being revived and, hopefully, the welfare of the animals is also being served. This time, it was very refreshing to see that they’ve made the

Cotabato: Just Passing By

The final stage of our Mindanao road trip was Cagayan De Oro.  From Sultan Kudarat, we were limited with 2 options to reach Cagayan De Oro. When time is a constraint, a 5-hour land trip to Davao is coupled with less than an hour flight from Davao International Airport to Cagayan De Oro. However, when considering cost, the 12-hour bus trip via North Cotabato is the option. WE had an extended stay in South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat and had to leave early Friday morning to be able to arrive in Cagayan De Oro before it gets dark. The Rural

Workout Plan: Keeping Up with the Kids

2 weeks ago I followed my jogging regimen. I tried it differently by adding some weight, roughly 10kg. And I guess I wasn’t quite ready for it! Actually, I brought along my 1-year-and-4-month-old son. He runs a lot inside the house and tires his nanny a lot. It was Sunday and I wanted to give his nanny some time off so I took him with me. I brought along his sling carrier. I’ve been using this carrier since he was 6 months old. Back then, it was a time when he almost outgrew his infant seat. I did not have a

My Weekly Workout Plan: Getting Started

One of my goals for 2011 is to train for more challenging outdoor activities next year.  I have several adventures in line with this goal. And in order to get to my long term goals, I have to start off somewhere. Thus, I made my first warm up jog last January 8. Many people who fail in their getting-fit plan start off the wrong way by making unrealistic goals and their disappointment will fuel their lack of interest in pursuing future fitness objectives.  I know because I’ve gotten into it several times way back in college. I would join club

A Different New Year in Sagada

8 years since my accidental visit to Sagada and I can still remember the feeling of being so close to heaven. In December 27, 2002, I went to visit Bolinao for a work-related project. With permission from my superiors, I brought along my buddy to keep me from boredom. When 6-hour bus trips become routine, it tends to be uneventful and dragging.  I was grateful to have someone to talk to. During the day, I attended to my official business. In the evening, we decided to return to Manila to avoid the holiday rush. From mid ’til end of December, many commuters
